Common hardware troubleshooting

  1. Sometimes PCs don’t start at all.
  • Ensure that the cables are connected and fetches power correctly
  • To power cycle the machine, unplug the power cable, press the power button just to cycle the remaining power. After 30 seconds, connect the cable back and try to power it on. If it doesn’t start, check for power supply, motherboard or RAM issues
  1. After turning on a machine, if it makes beeping sound, it’s probably the RAM. Could be a loose RAM connection or a faulty RAM unit.
  2. If machine starts but nothing appears on the screen, or it is idle and does nothing, it could be the power supply or the graphics card (can try with an external GPU)
  3. If it powers up, but stop with “can’t load windows” or “BootMGR missing” errors, it’s mostly the hard disk. Check if it’s working fine and check for SATA cables lose or not. If not fixed:
  • Try to repair windows by booting using another bootable media
  • C:\chkdsk /f /r
  1. OS not loaded errors try: a BIOS reset
  2. Machine keeps rebooting or bootloops can arise from CPU sink failures or overheating issues
  3. Locked BIOS passwords can be reset by discharging the CMOS battery (remove and keep it for 3-5 minutes to discharge and then insert again)
  4. Research internet with the exact error message or  issue

Use crucial system scanner software to scan for hardware support and available hardware on the machine.
